Unplug and escape the busy city life this season by setting up a tent and sleeping underneath the stars.

As one of the most naturally beautiful regions in California, Placer County’s mountains, land and waterways are the perfect backdrop for your family’s next camping trip. Here are a few campgrounds you’ll want to visit this season.

Bear River Park and Campground

Located in Colfax, this campground offers everything.

Whether you’re hoping to cast your fishing pole or go for a challenging hike, this is the camp park for you.

With more than five miles of trail, this park is about 200 acres of scenic land, where deer, squirrels and other wildlife roam.

Other amenities include gold panning, rafting and barbecuing.

Giant Gap Family Campground

Gather around the campfire and enjoy the sights and sounds of the great outdoors at Giant Gap Family Campground.

Several family campsite configurations equipped with picnic tables, campfire rings, grills and restroom facilities are available at Giant Gap.

The campground is near Sugar Pine Reservoir at 3,600 feet and is surrounded by cedar and ponderosa pine trees.

You and your family can enjoy fishing, canoeing, boating and other fun things at the campground’s reservoir and nearby American River.

Beal’s Point Recreation Area

Folsom Lake, which features the popular Beal’s Point, has three campgrounds.

Peninsula provides a quiet area near the north and south forks of the American River. It features about 100 family campsites, perfect for trailers or motorhomes.

Avery Pond is another option for hike-in camping. Beal’s Point, which is just north of Folsom Dam, has multiple campsites and room for tents, trailers and motorhomes. The sites have full hookups, sanitation areas and water for drinking and showering.

Wherever you decide to set up camp, you and your family must also visit the sandy beaches and swim areas at Granite Bay. Barbeque pits, shady areas and other grassy areas are perfect for picnicking and family relaxation time.

Peninsula Campground

At Peninsula, you and your family can enjoy a quieter camping experience with spectacular views of Folsom Lake.

From shoreline fishing to the Oaks Nature Trail, there’s plenty of ways to enjoy Mother Nature.

The campground has about 100 campsites that accommodate tent and trailer camping.
