Nothing quite beats a hot bowl of soup in winter. But as the season begins to transition and warmer weather arrives, you might decide to include more colder foods into your diet.

Sandwiches are the perfect food for any season, especially now when you can enjoy them while sitting outdoors on a patio or in a park.

If you want to try some of Lincoln’s best sandwich spots, here are a few eateries that will not disappoint.

Rebel Hen Café

Located in Old Town and locally owned, Rebel Hen is a specialty coffee and sandwich shop.

Order your sandwiches on sourdough, wheat ciabatta or a gluten-free loaf.

The grilled cheese features multiple cheeses including cheddar, smoked Gouda, gruyere and parmesan. Some people will go with the works and add caramelized onions, mushrooms, bacon and tomato to their grilled cheese sandwiches.

The caprese sandwich has tomato, fresh mozzarella, basil pesto, sun-dried tomato pesto, arugula and balsamic reduction. You can also add chicken for a few extra dollars.

Rebel Hen takes thinly sliced roasted beef, pickled onions, fresh cream cheese, roasted fennel aioli and arugula for its famous steak sandwich.

Also try the veggie, turkey and BLT with cheddar cheese, among other lunch foods.

Simple Pleasures

A sandwich can be a simple pleasure since it can be so easy to put together.

At Simple Pleasures, you’ll find a mixture of simple and complex sandwiches, which are served with the salad of the day.

With nearly two dozen options, there’s something for everyone.

Take the Shawn’s Steak, for instance, which is made with rib-eye steak and grilled to order. For something more basic, go with the Swiss pig with sliced forest ham and cheese on bread.

The Rosie & BooBoo’s catch-of-the day is put together with white albacore tuna salad, melted American cheese, red onion and shredded lettuce on a toasted bun with ketchup and mustard.

For something with height, try the stacked club, a triple-decker sandwich with sliced turkey breast, bacon, ham, Swiss and American cheeses, sprouts and avocado on sourdough.

Several other sandwiches, including kids’ options, are also on the menu.

Beach Hut Deli

Beach Hut Deli has mastered the art of making sandwiches that are hot or cold.

The gourmet sandwiches come with mayo, mustard, dill pickles, tomatoes, red onions, lettuce, Greek peppers and cheese. Some of the combination include the Surfin’ Bird with turkey, avocado, bacon and cream cheese. The North Shore combines with ham, turkey, pastrami, Monterrey jack and Italian dressing.

With over a dozen hot sandwiches, there will also be a sammy to match your mood. The Pig Kahuna features pulled pork, cheddar, Tabasco, BBQ sauce and is topped with onions and peppers. The Beach meat ball has meat balls, provolone, cream cheese and marinara sauce.

There are several other specialty cold sandwiches along with classics such as turkey and cheese, ham and cheese, roast beef and tuna.

For bread, you can pick from sweet French roll, wheat roll, sliced garlic bread, sliced wheat, gluten-free wraps and lettuce wraps.
